Yes, it’s still June in Kazakhstan.
You would never know it by looking at the way Sophia was dressed but today is June 25. She had two on two t-shirts, a fleece shirt, a jacket, the heavy outer coat, two hats, a pair of footed flannel pants, a heavy pair of pants and two pair of socks when we arrived. We would hate to see what she would have had on if it was winter. The temperature here did drop some over the last couple of days but for goodness sake it’s not like it’s freezing. I think the current temp is 66° F. Once we shed some layers off the munchkin we had a good visit but once again she seemed tired. When we arrived today Sophia was the only child out 8 in her group not taking a nap. She was just a dancing little girl today. She likes to stand and bounce up and down. She really seems to like music.
We were told that the locals average pay here is about $250 a month. We couldn’t believe this was accurate so we asked our second translator and she too said it was correct. We just don’t know how they do it. The people here dress like there is no tomorrow. It seems like everyone is into fashion and try to copy the high dollar models. We thought that it must just be the above average workers but even the people who live where we are staying and riding the bus with us dress for success. This is not a complaint from me but the women wear the highest heals and shortest skirts that we have ever seen. Even the men dress with some flash.

oh the layers...cracks me up. I would kill for 66 degrees now...but anyway, I digress.
I used to strip Leeza down in the visitation room and let her play in her diaper. We got busted one time and got reprimanded, but I still did it. It would make Sean VERY NERVOUS and he would yell at me the whole time to get her dressed again.
Now, she throws her shoes off at every moment and NEVER.WEAR.SOCKS..not one pair, not layered pairs.
The women are gorgeous-and they spend their money on fashion-but they buy like 2 or 3 outfits-and wear them over, and over, and over and over. Unlike Leeza-who rarely wears the same thing twice cuz her mother has a shoppping problem. :)
I loved people watching there-the Kazakh and Russian people are so beautiful-and just wait-People will stop you when you get home to comment how beautiful your daughter is. It happens to us often-I am chopped liver when Leeza is around, which is, all the time.
I think she doesn't want to nap cuz she is anxious to see her parents. :) She only gets more beautiful as she gets good family lovin. :)
Melissa you need to call us at work today. We have some news. Call us! Don't freak out we know you.

Oh my goodness.... such a bundle... I cannot believe they dress the children like that.
Do the local people eat in the restaurants? How could they afford that on that kind of pay? Or are the prices unbelievably cheap to eat? Do you feel as though you are paying a higher price on the English menu?
Have you been to a grocery store? I'm a fan of visiting grocery stores in other countries because you get to see so many different things.
Have you found the Twilight fans?
I figure if they have Harry Potter, they might have Twilight!
Love you all,
Tamara
Those layers are unbelievable aren't they?! The kids can hardly move. I remember that it would make Rustam so sleepy being in all of those layers. Chris would get a kick out of the women dressed all beautifully and walking through those apartment buildings. He would say what a contrast! 66 degrees sounds like a nice temp there except for the layering they then do on Sophia. It is a good break from the heat for you.
Bill, You are really getting some of that Kazakh sun. I remember Dr. Irina telling us that we looked like we had been on vacation and we were like "we are!".
"Love" the blue snow jacket. Looks like she can't move in it. But she is still happy looking just the same. Quite the fashion statement. I love the outdoor hut idea. Any good local fresh fruits or veggies you can buy to fix in your apartment? Well, back to work for now. Will be checking you out again tomorrow.

Love that cute little belly on Sophia! Those layers are absolutely unbelievable! How nice for you guys for the cooler weather! How sad for the Kazakh people to be paid so little, and to have to function and raise families, it sure makes us spoiled americans appreciate what we have!
