A very short visit with our Sophia
When we arrived at the baby house today Sophia was in the swing. Once again she started smiling like crazy when she seen us. We were really glad to see this today because we knew she had a doctors appointment this morning. We were expecting a grumpy baby. Knock on wood, she has been very pleasant lately. We are thinking she just needed to get to know us in the beginning. We took her back to the visiting room and within 10 minutes our coordinator came in with the log that we have to sign in everyday to prove that we did the 14 day bonding period. We were told to take Sophia back to her room so we could meet with the director about her doctors appointment. This check up was needed to be performed by an outside doctor to prove that the baby house doctors aren’t fabricating her medical charts. Everything was very good and nothing unexpected. Her weight today was 19.4 pounds. They say she was full term but small when she was born. They think she is still small for her age but think she is progressing very well. So basically everything is great.
We asked the director if we could spend more time with Sophia and she said yes. We are now allowed to come at 9:00-10:00 a.m. and 1:00-2:30 p.m. everyday. We also gave a monetary donation to the baby house today and she asked if we would like a tour of the facility. We were shown the quarantine room where all of the children stay when they first arrive to make sure they don’t have any illnesses. We seen the play room that has some very nice padded play equipment and we hope we will be allowed to use one day. They have a sauna, an indoor pool, a music room, a sea salt room, a massage room and we meet the head caretaker. After all of this it was time for Sophia to be put down for her nap. We went to her room and they already feed her and were just starting to change her. When she seen us she was happy again. We think she knew our visit was short because she didn’t want to lay down. She kept smiling at us and trying to get up. Everyday it hurts a little more to leave her there.
We then went souvenir shopping and ate at a Korean restaurant. I don’t think we will go back there even though they have an English menu. We had asked to be taken to a Chinese restaurant but I think we were misunderstood. When we got back to the apartment the cleaning lady had cleaned everything up. We then had an appointment with the massage therapist from the baby house. I sure hope Melissa doesn’t get use to all these luxuries.
This was about the best we could do for pictures today.
Look at those curls.

Hi,
Its great to see that you all are doing so good in fact it seems like ya'll are having a good time.I'm a little confused though the place looks chinese. Oh by the way I got the post card and so did grandma thanks for thinking of them.
Please call soon
Love Ya,
Mom
So glad to hear that you got a great report on Sophia and that you will get to spend more time with her. I was amazed at the scope of that baby house when we went on the tour. They really do keep it tidy, too.
That was the Chinese restaurant I was talking about. Sorry you didn't like it. I really enjoyed the meal that I had there. There are two Korean restaurants that we went to and they were both really good. Hopefully you will like them better. They have nice atmospheres. We had a bit of an experience when we got to the one Korean restaurant before Oleysa and tried to get a table. They were not happy with us that we did not speak Russian. They were outright mean, actually. That was probably one of the most uncomfortable experiences we had there. Fortunately most people there were really gracious about us mutilating the language. Probably more than people would be here.
I am loving reading your updates everyday. It does get harder to leave each day. That means that you are just loving that little girl more and more each day :)
WOO HOOO! more hours and the TOUR! things are going great!
wow, 19.4 lbs.go sophie! Leeza was 18 lbs when we left Kaz (at 13 months old!) but she is now a whopping 25 1/2 pounds!
Maybe you can go in the sauna with the babies-that is good fun. I have hilarious pics on our blog of me in the sauna with seven sweaty snotty sweeties. :)
GOOD TIMES!
We went to that Chinese restaurant-with the english menu. Sean had some horse plate. I thought it was too expensive and i liked other places much better...we only went there twice. :)
plus, their Baltica number 5 was not cold.
thumbs down in my book!
I remember when Tatiana toook Leeza for her dr appt, but she came early so we didn't miss out our visitation time. :)
Sounds like another great day in Kostanai-gorgeous blond haired blue eyed diva, massages, cleaning ladies, and good food.
Life is so tough in Kostanai, isn't it?
I sure miss it. :)
OK. An indoor pool, massage room and sauna? I'm starting to understand a few things. I can't wait to hear how the babies get to use these facilities... and when do you get to use these facilities with Sophia? Do weekends count on the 14-day bonding period? How exciting to get to spend more time with her each day. You can see from the photos that you are rapidly becoming a family. It is joyful to watch the transition.
We're back in PA tonight.
Love you all,
Tamara and Dad
