Two weeks till pre-court.

Late last evening we got a phone call from our coordinator. Yes we have a phone in the apartment. Not that we can call anyone but she does call us. She said she had good news in that she received word from the court that our adoption was assigned to the regular judge that she has worked with many times before and likes. The bad news is they are not going to count the last 8 days that we have been waiting for a court date. So as of right we have pre-court scheduled in two weeks. The reason we say for now is that the coordinator has an appointment with the judge tomorrow. She is going to explain the case and how Sophia only has one living relative who could contest the adoption and he isn’t eligible because he is young and single. Hopefully the judge will move up the court date since we will still have to wait 4 weeks after pre-court for the real court date.

As for the little princess, all is well. She for sure has a tooth that popped through on the bottom. You can not only feel it but can see it some now too. Not enough to photograph but we are trilled that she won’t need dentures for pre-K. We also picked up a little brush and a comb. She really liked getting her hair brushed. She even picked it up herself and attempted to brush it some and then just like everything else, it went in her mouth. If you can, make sure you look at the video. She has been making more and more noises that crack us up, this is a small sample.

Yesterday after lunch we had to hit a couple of local shopping establishments and we ran into the retired baby house director, Dr. Irina. For those who don’t know Dr. Irina was forced into retirement about a year ago because of her age. We think this was one of the many reasons we were delayed in our travels. Anyway, it was great meeting her as we have heard so much about her and she was very pleasant.

To put my Mom’s mind at rest, I’m feeling much better and my cough is much better. Melissa however is now coming down with cold like symptoms. Don’t worry I’ll take good care of her. Our coordinator tells us the cure here for the common cold is some romance involving raspberry jam. We won’t go into details but when in Kaz….

Hi Bill & Melissa: Loved the video. She is so cute. Great for the phone call and a judge. Don't understand why they won't count the last 8 days. To many rules and regulations. But I guess here too. Take care. Hug the little beauty for me.

Sorry to hear about your delays for court. I hope that the judge will be able to expedite it so you can still stay there the whole time. How very cool that you got to meet Dr. Irina! I think you are right that that had something to do with your delays. I love the local customs or superstitions that Olyesa would tell us about while we were there. Have you looked the gypsy in the eyes? LOL. Don't ask her, but see if this warning comes up sometime. Sophia looks like she is having fun with you two.
