Statues around Kostanai.
We took some pictures of the statues around the town. Some are really funny. There is one with a girl sitting on a bench using a laptop. Since we have been here the only laptops we have seen is our and ones at the computer store in the mall. You don’t see people sitting around coffee shops using them. We also noticed that you never see anyone sending text messages. When we asked if they have it here we were told yes. We guess it just hasn’t caught on yet.
Of course we visited Sophia today. She is really trying her best to walk. Today she took about five steps. Most of the time her upper body is going 90 MPH and the lower about 10. Needless to so the result is a very short attempt to walk resulting in one of us grabbing her. It seems like she does best when you don’t expect it and she just goes.
When we got home we went to do a load of laundry, by hand in the tub. You can see by the picture what the water is looking like today. It was worse on the hot side so laundry was done using the cold water gentle cycle today. We really hope this improves before our morning shower.
Yesterday morning we decided that we would head into town for breakfast after our visit at the baby house. We usually go back to the apartment and eat ceral or what ever we have. We had wanted to try a breakfast dish at Dolce Vita, one of our favorite places to eat without our translator present. We had eggs with ham, onions and tomatoes. It was served baked in a casserole dish. It did not have the egg yokes but was very good. Sitting next to us was 5 women also eating. They were doing vodka shots for breakfast. When we left they were on their second bottle. The funny thing is they looked like typical office workers. We're guessing they got off early.
City Hall.

ahhh the good ole brown water. :)
but..I sure miss Kostanai anyways. I miss the great weather-and how i lost 10 lbs without even trying. :)
Sophia is doing amazing on her walking!! wow!!! She just gets cuter and cuter!!
wow..vodka for breakast. I've been done to have a beer at 10:30 (only if we're off boating early) but i never even had any vodka in Kaz. Not a fan i guess!
we never went out to breakfast either but that sounded yummy at Dolce Vita!
OK that water is just yucky!
Interesting statues... and there seems to be a lot of them. How big is this city?
Do they go back to work after a vodka breakfast?
Hugs to all!
Tamara
I love the photos you took, especially the one of Melissa with her Domino Donuts sitting on the bench with cleavage woman :) The other statue with the short skirt cracks me up, too. Very Kostanai! They built that whole walkway and put up most of those statues across from the French market while we were there. It really spruced up that area and made it a great place to walk.
Of course I must comment on how beautiful your little daughter looks in her photos, too!
I remember seeing quite a few drunks during the day while we were there. They were loud on the bus, staggering in the mall area, etc. Strong vodka? Chris almost got knocked over by one drunk and his friend on the bus because the guy fell and his friend was trying to catch him. It was funny.
You two are brave now eating out on your own! I noticed that you said that you were going "home" to the apartment. Isn't it like your home now in some ways? It starts to feel like that after awhile where you are no longer a visitor. Unfortunately, the water reminds you that you are not home home. It really sounds like you two are making the best of your experience there.
AHH the cute Sophia! She is so precious! I am just so happy for your family! That smile is of a little girl is feels very loved!
The statues are interesting, they are trying to appear very metropolitan, but they are still so far from it aren't they!?
Wow! How often is your water like that! and does it come out that way at your sinks as well! We're not in Kansas anymore Toto! God bless the USA, for all of its faults and all the work we need to do, we are so much farther than most, oh how the simple things can remind us of that!
Drinking shots of Vodka in the morning hum! I guess they don't have Bloody Mary mix there thats how we do it here in the Big Easy.in the afternoon we do shots.
Shopie gets cuter all the time sure hope I get to meet her before she goes to college just kidding.
Love the pictures and Love ya'll
Mom
