Our life in Kazakhstan.
Were not in Kansas anymore Toto! We got the internet hooked up so we just had to share what our home away from home looks like. Please don't worry, it isn't as bad as you might think. We have the A/C working. It cools only the living room. The landlord asked us to turn it off after running it for two hours and give it a break. We gave up on the washing machine. It took two days to do one load and they came out worse then when we put them in. We are now hand washing a load a day and letting them hang dry on the balcony. The water was hot yesterday but not so hot today. We're told that since it's summer the government will be turning off the hot water within the next few days. Maybe they did so early. At least now we have a small kitchen if we decide to cook. Cheerios has been a daily favorite so far. We have been eating out at least one meal a day with our in country coordinator, Olyssa. She is the blonde in the pictures. She is a gift from God. We would be so lost without her. Now for Melissa's drink of choice, Snow Queen vodka.
Bonding with Sophia has been going well. We can really see improvements with her daily. She has started to really smile when we walk in the room. She has been giving us kisses and we have to say we love the big sloppy baby kisses. They're the best. She has been pulling herself up well and will walk when your holding both of her hands. Today Melissa was playing Twilight for Sophia on the iPod. She really seemed into it too. Melissa thinks she loves Edward. We confimed today that Sophia's birthday is July 21, 2008 and her given name is Nayda.

Melissa's saving grace.

Movin' on up to the East Side to a Deluxe apartment in the sky....sorry kids the Jeffersons you ain't! I am surprised to see that such high end vodka is available in the projects! I guess everyone needs a little magic elixer to get by.
Hey Melissa, Bill, and Sophia, Hello from the ultrasound room!!! We are missing you Melissa and so enjoying your updates and pictures. It's still raining daily in York, so no shortage of water here...take care and keep in touch and hug that baby for us all-xoxoxoxo.

OK... it looks to me like there will be EMPTY bottles of Snow Queen vodka... and we'd like you to know that an empty bottle works as well as a full bottle for a souvenir. Wow. Reminds us of Egypt and Shanghai.... bet there aren't any elevators either?
Glad to hear you are having a good time. All part of the plan.
Love,
Dad and Tamara
That looks like the apt that a couple Commonwealth families stayed in..is it near the baby house? It's hard to tell but it kinda looks like it.
Keep trying on the washing machine. We had 2 apts because they installed the DSL in the wrong apt so we moved (the landlord owned 2) and they had an express cycle we found. We had a boiler so we never had to go without hot water..just when they turned off ALL the water for a day and a half. It wasn't bad at all...I just pretended I was camping. :)
I never had ANY vodka, but I had a Baltica Number 5 almost everyday. :)
you will be surprised that after a while you feel very at home there and you will cry when you leave. :)
I am glad Sophie is learning all about true love with her parents, and, of course, Edward. :)
I recognize Olysessa from seeing her at the baby house. :) I'm glad she is taking good care of you. Our in country team made us feel very much at home. :)
Are you guys sure you aren't in my college apartment? Say it isn't so...Melissa has recruited another fan for Twilight! Love the updates and pictures...checking them every day. We can't wait to get our hands on this beautiful baby...Bella is ready to teach her how to be a crazy american toddler.

Wow Sophia looks very content with her forever family! ( and so do her parents)Sorry to hear about the apartment, but there are brighter things on the horizon!
So, is Missy drinking the vodka? or bathing in it?
The vodka is for drinking.
Say hi to Oleysa for us and give her a big hug from Chris!
